Water & Sewer Rate Increase 2024

At a public hearing on June 18, 2024, the Sebastopol City Council approved raising Water and Wastewater (Sewer) rates to better cover the cost of operating and maintaining these systems. New rates went into effect July 1, 2024

History: Water and sewer rates have not covered the costs of operating the City’s water and sewer systems since Fiscal Year 2019-20. One consequence is that our systems are in poor condition, which increases the risk of failures that would leave residents without water or sewer service for what could be hours or even days at a time.

Rates have not covered our operating cost, nor the costs of upgrading parts of the systems to ensure that they work properly. The new rates will support the financial viability of the system and help to fund these upgrades.
