Peace Officers Video and Audio Recordings – AB 748/Government Code 6254
Assembly Bill 748 was signed into law by the Governor on September 30, 2018. Commencing on July 1, 2019, police audio and videos files related to a critical incident shall be disclosed and made publicly available. A video or audio recording relates to a critical incident if it depicts any of the following:
- An incident involving the discharge of a firearm at a person by a peace officer or custodial officer.
- An incident in which the use of force by a peace officer or custodial officers against a person resulted in death or great bodily injury.
There are some exceptions which can exempt the disclosure and there are requirements for redaction to protect privacy. In this section of our website, you will find links to any cases deemed to meet the requirements for public disclosure. The links are shown by the case number associated with the incident.
