March 4 City Council Meeting Highlights Finances, New Police Chief, Press Policy, and Other Important Issues
March 3, 2025, City News

A full agenda for the March 4 City Council Meeting includes important financial updates. A FY24-25 Quarter 2 Financial Update on the General Fund will be presented (Agenda Item #8). The Adopted FY24-25 budget initially included a deficit of $698,000. Based on results available through December 31, 2024, we project a year-end deficit of $575,000, which is $149,000 lest than the adopted budget. This and more will be covered during the presentation.
The Long-term Budget Model and Projections and Preview of the FY25-26 Budget will also be presented during the City Council Meeting (Agenda Item #9). For over a year, the City has been taking a thoughtful, data-driven approach to its long-term financial planning with the help of the financial model developed by Bob Leland of Baker Tilly. The “Baseline Scenario” offers a mixture of positivity as well as caution. While the budget figures have improved from a year ago, the City has ongoing financial hurdles.
A mid-year update on the water/sewer budgets will also be covered during financial presentations that will show how funding from the rate increase will be used to address current issues related to our outdated water and sewer systems.
The Council will also vote on approving the employment contract for Sean McDonagh making him the new Chief of Police. See the Press Release for more information.
Discussion of processes and procedures for responding to media inquiries.
Meeting starts at 6pm at the Youth Annex and virtually.
