Fire Reorganization

Sebastopol City Council Approved Final Steps to Merge with Gold Ridge Fire District to Provide Better Fire Services for our Community with 24/7 Staffing

On February 4, 2025, the Sebastopol City Council gave their final approval to transfer the responsibility for fire and emergency services within the City to the Gold Ridge Fire District. This change should happen around July 1, 2025, subject to conditions noted in the FAQs.

This change means Sebastopol residents will get better fire protection at a lower cost. The fire station will stay right where it is, our professional firefighters will keep their jobs, and the community will be protected by a larger, better-equipped fire department.

The bottom line is the service will improve to a level that a stand-alone fire department could not achieve. The City does not have the resources to achieve the desired and deserved level of service. When the resources of the City are combined with the Fire District, we will make a stronger more reliable and sustainable fire service.
